This one is for you

"Sword And Shield"

Just when the sky runs out of rain
Just when the sun runs out of light
Just when the earth is ill with pain
Just when your body is out of fight
I will be there
I will be the smallest piece in everything
And I would give my life before I break this promise to you

Melt in to me
Don't you want to be the ones that last forever
I'll be your everlasting
And enemies they take your will but they won't last forever
I'll be your sword and shield and
I'll be your sword
I'll be your shield

Just when the ocean starts to dry
Just when the air is sick with smoke
Just when the statues start to cry
And fallen angels they lay broken
I will be there
I will be the smallest piece in everything
And I would lose my life before I break this promise to you

Melt in to me
Don't you want to be the ones that last forever
I'll be your everlasting
And enemies they take your peace but they won't last forever
I'll be your sword and shield and
I'll be your sword
I'll be your shield

I'll be your gracious angel
I'll be your favorite stranger
I'll be the mortar holding your walls
I'll be your army

Just when the sky runs out of rain
Just when the sun runs out of light
Just when the earth is ill with pain
Just when your body is out of fight
I will be there
I will be the smallest piece in everything
And I would give my life before I break this promise to you

Melt in to me
Don't you want to be the ones that last forever
I'll be your everlasting
And enemies they take your peace but they wont last forever
I'll be your sword and shield and
I'll be your sword
I'll be your shield
I'll be your sword
I'll be your shield
I'll be your army

Some Personal Favorites

Not much out of the ordinary going on in Heisman Run land these days, so I figured I would give you these two quick links to check out...

http://uselessandpointless.blogspot.com/

GREAT DISCUSSION about "guilty pleasure" music going on... join in. You'll also see your HeismanRun host admit a couple things that may take some coaxing in different circumtsances.

http://www.lacollege.edu/athletics/baseball/

My younger brother (saying younger but knowing full well that he is 3 inches taller and could make me cry uncle without breaking a sweat) played baseball at LC for the last two seasons. This year, he is a student assistant coach, even though he isn't listed on the site (what's with that, coach?). He tells me this is a team capable of great things (even though their last two seasons have been record-breaking years) and I am really excited for them. I'll keep you posted on their season, but it is worth a visit to get to know the team. GEAUX WILDCATS!

Thinking outside of loosing my mind

Anyone else extremely annoyed by the phrase "thinking ouside of the box?" A versitle phrase, it has so many uses yet acutally means so little. Its another one of those buisness buzzterms that dress up a meeting or document, but becomes so transparent when you boil it down.

Means to get creative, I think! Why would you purposely think "outside" of what has worked for you in the past just for the sake of creating something new. Now, if you have something that is not working for you, or your organization then don't wait any longer and change it for the better, but if you are changing things just because you need to "think outside the box" or "change for change's sake" then you deserve the pitfalls that may come. Also, why sacrifice what you have done well for so long in the name of creativity.

If you like buiness words... you'll love this sentence.

By harnessing the creative and expressionistic synergy, our organization stands to gain significant market dominance while effectively increasing our reliance on human capital with a focus on lasting effects.

(I made that up!.. can't ya tell)

Any other fun buisness/academia/netherworld phrases that make you cringe? or at least question their meaning?

What point is too much?

http://entertainment.msn.com/tv/hotgossipb2?GT1=7756

This is the second time today I have heard about Jessica Simpson's love life. Just gets me asking at what point do we know too much about celebrities? at what point do we care too much?
Now, I watch as much MTV/VH1 as the next pop culture enthusiast.

I probably watch too much, but what I also do is follow it up with a steady diet of local news and as much current events as I can stomach. Maybe it just pains me today because I have a feeling that we should be talking about something different (foreign affairs, hurricane recovery, crime rates... pick your poison)
.

Whatcha think? Gimmie something to wok with on this one...

The one thing I went without in 2005

I had a bit of a self-revelation on the way to work one morning this week. It came when I saw someone in front of me driving a bit recklessly because they were too busy lighting up a Malboro (or whatever their preferred brand may be).

See, I smoked for the better portion of my life between ages 18-23. Not a heavy smoker, when compared to the heaviest of smokers - maybe a two pack a week habit, up to three on a particularly bad week. Enough background, what happened was that when I saw Reckless McDriver swerving through the road to get his morning nicotine/tobacco fix I thought to myself - "it sure has been a while since I did that (as in driving wrecklessly b/c I was lighting up a smoke)." Then I let my mind wander a little into the past to try to attempt to think back to the last time I had indeed almost caused a wreck because of my habit and couldn't recall a specific last time (I did remember that I had made a decision around the age of 21 or so to stop smoking in my vehicle all together). In my blank thoughts, I then asked myself when was the last time I even smoked - I couldn't remember. All I knew is that it had been well before the turn of the year in 2005, meaning I had went an entire year without a cigarette. I can't say that completely about 2004, but I went most of that year without as well. I never really had a "quit date" as many others do.

What actually took me aback by that thought was that I remembered just how tough 2005 really was. Don't get me wrong, it had it's great highlights (including the day I got married!) but the majority of the year was laced with its troubles and challenges (money troubles, health troubles, hurricanes). In a moment of personal gratification, I smiled to myself and realized that if I had indeed made it through those challenges without smoking, then I could do it for the rest of my life. Now, challenges will only get tougher from here, but the foundation is there.

This one is for all of you who at any point told me - "you gotta quit that one day." - THANKS!

And while you are reading and since this has been my world for the last 48 hours - make sure your computer's anti-virus files are up to date as of late January/early Feb. There is a highly publicized outbreak that is supposed to happen today and the damage from the virus is supposed to be fairly significant. It takes an outbreak to remind us of this sometimes, but remember that most viruses/worms/general computer nastiness will get you any day of the week!
