Have I been asleep for a year?

I only ask that becuase I have heard too much this week about USC three-peating as college football champions. I guess I am just wondering if I fell asleep sometime in between January 4, 2004 and now and USC had played two seasons of undefeated football.

Chip on the Shoulder admitted. I would probably not be writing this had any other school beside LSU won the BCS championship in 2003. I will never contend last year's USC BCS trophy, they earned that based on the fact that they played through the BCS system and won in that system. I will always contend even their share of the 2003 championship because they did not play in the BCS sanctioned championship game. Heck, they beat a 4 loss team that played like a bunch of high school second stringers for their AP champoinship. Coincindentally, the AP vote was part of the BCS... AAAAHHH (sorry, emotions took over the keyboard).

They could very well repeat this year. That would give any paper in the nation the right to say they have the opportunity to three-peat. Heck, I wouldn't even care if they specified it down and said that they would three-peat as AP champions.

Bitter - you betcha. GEAUX TIGERS!

I, for one, would love to see a bussload of those bastards overturn into a pool of mustard, and not even good honey mustard - maybe some 10 year old grey poupon from the back of somebody's fridge. I don't really wish those guys bodily harm, but I would like to take em down a peg or two.

The sad thing is, in Louisiana, we're so pumped about our sports programs that education slips by the way side. In Cali, they could care less about a one-peat, much less a three peat.

    Got any Grey Poupon?

I like that idea a lot. I think I get slightly aggrivated becuase I don't think the media is giving anyone else a fair look, or even close to anything ojbective because they truly want USC to win again.

It is hard for me to imagine a school where football, or sports for that matter, were not as important as the academics and that is due to my upbringing. To their credit, those California schools are doing something right. They have set up a blueprint for higher education that more should want to follow.

Thanks for school Big Daddy. You have presented a very good argument in a very lawyerly way. Unfortunately I will remain bitter much like the Boardroom (AAAAAHHHHH). While the USC Trojans have all the talent in the world, they have to use it against 1 team a year, that is pretty much whomever they face in the National Championship (although CAL was game last year). No one seems to take into account the fact that USC plays in BY FAR the weakest of the BSC conferences, if not as weak as some of the mid majors. The Pac-10 is so top heavy with USC they have some unwarranted legitimacy. You know how difficult it is to come out of the Big-12 or SEC unscaved. The media makes reference to that point all the time. In a perfect worls, Auburn would have played Oklahoma in the title game in a far better match-up than that with USC. But like you said, the SEC gets no love even though it's regarded as the toughest conference (which i thin will go to the Big 12 this year).
So I remian bitter that Auburn got no love because people wanted to reward USC for not making the BCS title game last year. The fix was in. Auburn clearly dominated the SEC last year (yeah they were better than us even though they won by what 1 point?) USC is a good team, but would not make it through a conference where actual defense is played. You saw what they did when Cal, Oregon St, UCLA played some defense. They struggled.

Ok I'm very talked out about USC. Great team, too much media hype. I love Reggie Bush though.

Oohh... laundry list, well here we go.

I have respect for USC, heck they have only lost one game in the last two seasons. My biggest complaint is the term "three-peat" based soley on the fact that their is a National Champoinship game, dubbed thee before the season even starts, where the winner is declared the National Champion and is handed a Waterford cyrstal football. 2003 Season - USC did not play in this game, therefore no ability to claim the title. The AP, who also hands out a "championship" (even though the BCS was designed, partially by them, to eradicate the split title) refused to vote any of the two participants in the Sugar Bowl higher than USC. I fail to recognize that as a champoinship because we designed a system specifically designed to rid ourselves of the split national titles, and that very system did not put USC in a 2003 title game. 2004 was their year, they dominated their share of games (they still need to thank a group of zebra's for their win over VA TECH).

I acutally think that it is no longer an anti-SEC, ACC bias, but it is a bias against any conference that plays defense. The meida doesn't like games like Auburn v. LSU 2004 because there were less than 20 points scored. The only way the media get highlight reels they want is from a PAC-10 offensive shootout, where the objective is not to hold your opponent to as few points as possible but to make sure they don't get touchdowns #5 and #6 and that your team does (afterall a 35-42 game will more attention that a 14-0).

Our 1908 Champoinship - GEAUX TIGERS (BD, I did know that actually). However, if you start recognizing every championship that was handed out from the beginning of intercollegiate football, University of Mississippi has 6 of them. GEAUX TO HELL UMISS. (note:refusing to refer to them as their little pet name).
